I was thinking about that when i was setting up goals for the "Snatcher" MOD, I thought about cell shading VS real, and of course the fun of roaming neo kobe city with more of a GTA feel.

there will definatly not be any chainguns in the MOD, I'm really just trying to re-create the game in a more explorable investigative way....think "Condemned : Criminal Origins", and...."BioShock" is a good example.

I can't wait to see what kojima does with the new game though...
hopefully he finishes where he left off?
but then gillian would be in moscow....and you wouldn't get to explore the wonders of neo kobe...wich is a great backdrop for a game...
oh well maybe it will turn out like the metal gear saga...a ton of snatcher sequels would be nice.

I definetly want you to finish the mod some day, because I can see exactly what you mean. It would be really cool to explore Neo Kobe city from FPS perspective. I think a good example of a game that portays night-life well is Deus Ex (the original). That's what I've always thought of when I think of Neo Kobe city. I don't think that Kojima can do a sequel since it isn't a game that is that well known, but if he does a remake of the original AND a second story, then I would be well pleased.

Deus Ex was what inspired me to try and re-make the game, it was the first engine i used for the project.

'd love to work with some die-hard fans of SNATCHER on putting this together...

feel free PM me, I am just one lone snatcher fan on a mission, I'd love to have the community more involved in the process of making this MOD...there are little things i wrestle with such as what to keep from each version of the game? since there are many versions (i have them all but PCE).

I first played snatcher like 13 years ago...so I'm dying to see what Kojima does with it after so much downtime, I mean just look at MGS:4...and the production level they are on now! "Project S" is going to be amazing, snatcher was great and it was a 2d digital comic (with 16bit graphics).

You have a PM, sir, and I also live in Florida, we could put our experience together quite easily.

This quote's a little more substantial than the ones that have appeared, recently.
http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/863/863842p3.html
Hideo Kojima wrote:...However, maybe the sequel to ZOE, or a remake of Snatcher, for instance, if I just participate as a producer, yeah, that could be possible...
If I was to build on that quote, I might suggest that Kojima may only be taking a support role in Project S, making sure everything is accurate to its source material, and keeping everyone in Kojima Productions in line. Suda would probably do most of the creative work in this scenario. This is essentially what was planned for the radio drama (which hasn't been unannounced, so I assume it's still happening), so it wouldn't be such a shock if the whole project panned out the same way.

BTW- Another quote came out of this, noting his appreciation for the hardcore Kojima fans. The translation/transcription is a little messy and nonsensical though, likely due to the writers' lack of knowledge about Snatcher and Policenauts.
Hideo Kojima wrote:..that's just a service to the fans, the genuine fans of Kojima Productions. Policenauts and Snatcher wasn't probably released in America and some other parts of the world outside of Japan. In Japan, there are still a lot of core fans who really love all of the series. Even Meryl – she used to appear in Policenauts – so it's a kind of service to say thank you to the fans, actually...

Not very encouraging, at least for me.. but Let's wait and see what happens. Obviously he mentioned it just because he was asked about it, i mean it is not an announcement. I must agree that he did mention that it would be possible for him to be involved as producer, but that is hardly what I'd like for Snatcher... For ZOE that si ok, since that has been his position always though.

let's hope he can finally start a new project after MGS4.

Off-topic, I know, but I found these comments at the start of the interview similarly discouraging.
IGN.com's MGS4 Hideo Kojima Interview wrote:IGN: That actually brings up one important question: You've expanded on the series with Metal Gear: Ac!d, Portable Ops, the Digital Graphic Novel. I was wondering if you had any plans for other earlier tales for Snake or Raiden. Perhaps even some of the earlier adventures of Snake's career?

Kojima: Actually, yes, to answer your question directly. But I can't say if it's going to be a game. Maybe it'll be a novel or a comic – I do have some ideas. However, I have to say that I'm not going to do everything if we were to create it. Maybe I'll just produce or maybe design the game and just act on that role, so I won't be the total creator of that series if it happens.

IGN: Would you consider these new chapters, stories or projects to be better suited for the PSP, or one of those things that the PS3 can best showcase?

Kojima: I don't know if I should say this, but we found out that Portable Ops, for instance, in Japan especially, has totally different target groups that the MGS series on the console platforms. Namely, the middle school students, from 13 to 15, are really fanatical with the machine itself -- look at Monster Hunter Portable, for instance. So if I were to, I would like to continue with this, to aim at those middle school students because they are so interested with MPO right now. I would continue to try to reach them.
I worry that this may suggest MPO-style remakes of MG and MG2:SS. Kojima, understandably, seems cautious to mention such things while wanting to finally leave the series to his staff, but it would be out of character for him to mention an idea like this without serious plans.

I'd be quite interested in the concept of a MG/MG2 Graphic Novel, or something of the sort, but I certainly wouldn't like any plans for games to be remade in Portable Ops' mould (I really didn't enjoy MPO very much, compared to the rest of the series) with multiple plot/character changes. If they took out the hang-glider or the owl, I would be pissed.

I too hope that it doesn't become a remake of MG and MG2:SS. I like portable ops, but it's a bit unwieldy compared to the rest of the 3d series (particulary the camera). It's well done, but I always get back to thinking about what the game would look like on a big screen, and what the controls would be like if I was using a ps2 controller.
I truly hope that a new Snatcher comes out, but I figure even if he doesn't come out with any snatcher games soon, he'll have to exhaust the metal gear world at some point. Not that I want things to get to that point, but I love Kojima's other creations as much as the Metal Gear universe.

I'd be happy with ANY new Snatcher project....

If Kojima only made the "new" Snatcher stuff a "Digital Comic" I'd be ok with that, a remake, sequel or prequel works as well.....I just really want to see more.

I can't wait to see Suda's violent and crazy concepts for snatcher!

I'm unsure just how bold Suda's influence on Project S will be. He's a very big fan of the original (one of main reasons he was brought on), and I'm sure he will respect the style of the game. On the other hand, however, Suda's own style is quite overwhelming, and has been very obvious on every game he's had artistic control on (even Grasshopper's anime licences).

As a big fan of both Snatcher and Goichi Suda, I hope that they will be able to make a good balance. It's obvious from some of Suda's games, that Kojima has had a big influence on him, and I expect he could make a very natural-feeling continuation of the Snatcher story if he wanted to. Then again, I personally hope that Suda won't copycat Hideo Kojima too much in this, as I find his own creative style very appealing (though I don't think characters like Speed Buster and Ayame Blackburn would be fitting in "Snatcher 2").

Reminds me, actually. I think I saw a potential Snatcher reference in No More Heroes.
Spoiler:
When Travis is preparing to fight Letz Shake, Henry rushes in and slices the earthquake machine in two, killing Letz Shake. Travis then shouts "Fuckin' Snatcher!" at Henry. I think this may be a reference to when Randam (a similarly enigmatic character, who is pretty much, a Snatcher) kills Freddie Nielsen for Gillian. It's a bit of a long-shot, but given the awkwardness of the line, and Suda's love of Snatcher, it's not too unlikely

I noticed it too, but all of yesterday's MGS4 news has been a bit overwhelming, so I didn't post about it. I think Kojima knows that many fans are familiar with the name; "Project S" now, and he still wants to be a little ambiguous about it, thus "The Project", I guess. I don't have much doubt that it was talking about a Snatcher sequel.

Cool. I didn't even realize that they had recently had a press conference. A sequel to snatcher would be nice (what else COULD they be talking about?).

Not really Project "S", but it's more of Kojima and Suda hanging out. What's even better is that Mikami was there again, too!

Grasshopper Manufacture recently had a party for their staff to celebrate their 10th Anniversary. Hideo Kojima and Shinji Mikami were invited, and gave speeches at the event (and were photographed breaking a Kagami mochi Rice cake).

I guess Kojima was so disappointed with E3 2007 that he didn't even bother with E3 2008 at all. Maybe Leipzig or TGS, then?

Yeah, this year's E3 was kinda disappointing as far as newly announced games went. I think I'm going to stop following it. It's great that the different companies can discuss financial aspects and new hardware and stuff, but I'm not going to have a countdown for "WiiMotion+" or "Playstation Home" I'm sorry but as interesting as that is, I'm not going to scream "E3's here!" because of something like that. E3 always had some top quality announcements with screens or videos. The last two have seriously lacked that.

It's no longer a show for the casual gamer, which is kinda unfortunate. Especially since things like the Tokyo Game Show don't have the variety of companies E3 DID.

Oh well, times change, I guess.

EDIT: Just read that link, 87th, yeah. E3 used to be a festival... a time to celebrate games and look to the future.

Nintendo's E3 conference was a complete joke. I think their conference summed up this year's E3, overall; lacklustre and uninspired.

TGS will always be a better show for me. It always has been, E3 was always overrated.

I like the Tokyo Game Show. But preferred E3, it *SEEMED* typically more companies were involved, the shows *SEEMED* bigger and the other companies *SEEMED* to mingle together a little bit more.

I found E3 had bigger announcements but the Tokyo Game Show had more show, like it usually revealed more footage and news of the announced products.

Since E3 hit bottom last year, I've found that games have instead become more or less a name on paper, and it seems like more developers are preferring set ups like Square's "closed mega theater." Not all but quite a few. Lately I find I have NO idea what a game is going to be like until it comes out, it never used to be that way.

Nintendo doesn't need to do much right now, though. DSes and Wiis continue to fly off shelves. But yeah, their conference sucked.

Yeah, the systems companies don't really need to attest for much. Typically Nintendo and Sony keep their games relatively hush hush anyway. Microsoft doesn't necessarily make games outright, so there's not much you could expect from them. Microsoft's almost blatant "copying" of Nintendo's Miis disgusts me though. It's one thing to think an idea is good. It's also alright to say you want to go further. But to bring out an idea like it's never been done and strut around like a peacock?

Bah.. Just to warn everyone, I am NOT a Microsoft fan, at least in terms of a gaming company. I find them to be a third wheel on a bicycle. They handle computers well, but I always felt it was odd for them to make a gaming console, instead of making computers better. Doesn't help that they port most of their games to the PC in the end anyway.
