The "How I got my copy" thread.

Post by X_Lupin »

Post your story of how you got your copy of SNATCHER, anything and any way, how much you paid and where you got it. I feel the stories will be interesting seeing as how rare and sought after the game is.

I found two sales online running simultaneously from people in different parts of the country. One on eBay was selling his SNATCHER case and manual for $30, the other on Amazon was selling his disc alone for $30.

I bought both, giving me a full copy of SNATCHER for only $60 last week.

How did you get yours?

I got mine rather recently, paid nothing, and just clicked "download".... I would love to have an actual hard copy, along with a working CD system, but... alas.... when you live in the middle of nowhere, there's not much you can do eh.

Illegally downloaded it, alongside the Gens emulators, after I heard that the game was 'spectacular, wonderfuly etc' and that I'd heard that it was a lost gem from Konami (didn't know until after I had completed the game that it was a Kojima game). Nothing brilliant to say, really. I bought an official copy of the game, later.

^ That's pretty much how I first got into Snatcher as well, except for the fact that ever since 2000, I knew it was a Kojima game; I just didn't know more about it until only recently. I loved the game so much that I played the earlier MSX and PC88 versions via emulation. I also enjoyed its spin-off, SD Snatcher. There's only one more version of Snatcher that I'm interested in playing, and that's the PC Engine version. However, it's getting harder and harder to download the ISO for that version, so I decided to one day, try to get the real thing.

Also, out of all the versions of Snatcher I've played so far, the version I like the least is the MSX version (damn load times).

My stepdad took me to a comic shop when I was younger (9 or 10). I saw it sitting in the case for $10 and thought it looked cool because the guy on the front had a gun. I bought it. Little did I know that I had just purchased my soon-to-be favorite game.

There isn't much to tell about how i get my copy of Snatcher...
Actually i have few of them, SEGA CD, PC Engine and Saturn versions.

All of them i bought from eBay, most difficult was to get SEGA CD, and it was expensive too. But i found one in very good condition and it was "buy it now" item so i didn't have to stress about someone bidding over me. I just bought it and in one week i get it from my postoffice. It cost something like 100$, i don't remember the exact cost.

Yeah mines pretty boring too. Just saw it in my local game shop for like £5 when I was about 11not long after it came out . I've had it ever since. Like an idiot though I loved it that much I laminated the book front to back, thereby making the book about three times as thick so it wouldn't fit back in the case, probably rendering it worthless.
I was only a kid..............ok and an idiot.

i bought the sega cd version when it came out. played it loads. when the sega cd stopped making games i wanted another copy of snatcher before they stopped selling it so when to my local game shop where i got four brand new copies for £5 each also picked up a couple of copies of road avenger too. one of the best bargains. still have those copies too. little did i know how much of a fan base the game would get.
got a psx version sealed $30, saturn version sealed $40, pc engine version $20 and msx $100 and msx sd snatcher $150.
some of these i got a few years ago and some a few months.

Bought it off my buddy in 1997 for $10. I bought the Saturn and PS1 versions in Japan for about $25 each. I play Snatcher through every year or so.

I bought mine in Dixons when it first came out for the Mega cd i was pretty young
i was out shopping with my mum and she gave me the money so i went to go and buy it and the fucking dixons clerk said he wouldnt sell it to me because i was too young so....... i just got my mum to buy it for me lol its the only time in my life anyone has looked at an age rating on a game he even said to my mum this game might not be suitable for your son!

It was embarrassing at the time but made me appreciate the game more I had never played anything like it!

I almost bagged the UK Mega-CD version off ebay last week. I noticed the guy had started the bidding a 99p so i emailed him to ask if he would accept £20 for it - a few mins later it was taken off sale and i thought i had got it, but the guy emailed to say "damn, i didn't realise how much this thing was worth!" and has now relisted it for £149.99..... bummer!

So i bought the Saturn version (Mint condition + Spine + Stickers) yesterday to start my collection, i like the packaging on the Saturn version.

Guess i'll have to stick to my TOSEC dump of the Mega-CD version for the mean time.

For me, I had acquired a Sega CD (Version 2) and wanted to expand the library with the best of the best. I found an eBay auction for an ex-rental for $40. Realizing it's about $20 less than the going price (at the time), I jumped at it. The game came with the case, but only the front insert. Though it's not much to look at, it was the game I was after, and I'm thrilled to have it in my collection. :)

Happy End.

Hi Guys,

The first version I got was the PC-Engine one in 1994 (it was new). At that time I was fascinated by that game I discovered in the AVG/RPG Vol5 japanese magazine (it was the MSX2 version test).Anyway, I sold it few years later for almost nothing...
Several years later a started to collect the Snatcher items.

- MSX2 version : in Akihabara for 8000 yens (50€ at that time)
- PC8801 version : Also in Japan for 8000 yens - I was really lucky on this one since it's really hard to find
- PC Engine, new sealed on Yahoo Auctions
- SD Snatcher on Yahoo Auctions (20,000 yens --- arg)
- PS1 with spine for 20€ on ebay in 2007
- new sealed saturn on yahoo auctions for 3000 yens
- SEGA CD on ebay
- MEGA CD (EU) on ebay (expeeeensive one :) )

recently I bought an expensive saturn version signed by Kojima. I also bought all the OST in Japan during my several business trips...

Been a fan of snatcher since I was 14 :} , atleast i must have been, or younger, well im 24 now anyway.

Found my copy for the Sega CD in a small second hand electronics store owned by an indian man. Can't remember why we were in there, and they had only a few games, Snatcher was one and my dad baught it.

We all loved the game, though it somehow got lost in time..between then and college..

sad ;/

Got mine with my Saturn and bought it for Playstation, sadly I never owned SEGA CD hardware, so I had to play the best version (imo) emulated.

ok 1st post . hi all.

Ok , So here goes ..
i was about 11 , 2001 or 2002 . I Was sitting in my 3rd grade class room during silent reading time i had a EGM Magazine (it was my dads lol) , i flipped to the page with the Phantasy Star IV , some memories there but this is not the place :) . After that it was recess and i was bored and so were my friends so we took out the EGM to look through what we all thought would be cool , We all saw the picture for SNATCHER , we saw a robot and were like "Wow , THAT HAS TO BE COOL! " . So we flipped to the page and saw Gibson , or what happened to him and were like This Is Sweet (we were like 10 and had no clue what happened lol). then years went by , about 4 days ago i found it on the internet and an emulator ... i have recently shown it to 2 friends and we are playing through it together ( Swapping Save State Between Each Other) . we are right at the end and i am Amazed by how it is . so i'm a newb you can say.

but , thats my story.
hope you liked it.

Wow, EGM at silent reading time? Very cool. I remember when I was in 4th grade and X-Men had just come out for the Genesis. I brought it to school to show my friends, and one of them grabbed it and waved it in the air, shouting, "Oh my god, you got it, you got it!" and the teacher came and took it away. I got it back at the end of the day, but at the time I was worried I wouldn't see it for a while.

I've basicly already told my story how I got my copy in my introduction thread, but I can flesh it out a bit here.

Simply I had been lurking here for a while and decided it would be awesome to have a copy of this wonderful game. My older brother and his friends had been planing to go to japan this summer. I saw my opportunity to get the game by simply having my brother buy it for me while there.

I remembered me and my friends talking about this place in Tokyo, Akihabara that had tons of old used games called Super Potato. I remember us watching a few clips were people would film inside that store and that place would then become a must-visit when I travlen to Japan myself someday. I looked up it's location on googlemaps and found it and printed the map, a picture of the game case(Which I convinently found on JunkerHQ:mrgreen:.) so my brother wouldn't get me the wrong games(As I told in my introduction thread he bought me Policenauts at the same time).

Anyway, I gave him the map of he goes to have fun in Japan without me. After he spent one week in Japan I asked him when I talked to him over skype if he had been to Super Potato and bought me the games. He told me he had found Policenauts but no Snatcher. I was happy that he found Policenauts, but sad because he didn't find Snatcher. I told him to keep looking and he said he would.

Two weeks later when he was packing to fly home I spoke to him one last time to hear if he had found it yet, his answer was no one more time. I was quite saddened by the fact he failed to get it for me, but he did get me Policenauts so it wasn't that bad.

A few day later he came home and he gave me my Policenauts and a wrapped package and told me "Hapy Birthday"(My birthday was 2 day before he came home). I opened the package and to my suprise a nice copy of Snatcher CD-ROMantic was in there. I asked him where he found it and that son of bitch told me he bought it at the same time as Policenauts in Super Potato. Best birthday present ever!
