Just found this, though everyone should know!
Just found this, though everyone should know!
uh uh... this doesn't look good. I hope they don't produce MGS4... MGS was designed as a trilogy and I think MGS4 would destroy the whole wonderful MG-universe... Kojima doesn't wanna make MGS4 so that prooves that it would be crap... MGS without Kojima.... thumps down... *not happy*
"Even when I reached a hundred, even after I die, even as a ghost I'd still like to create games. It's so fun." (Hideo Kojima)
No, your wrong. Kojima dosent want to make MGS4 because he wants what he started to be passed on. His own example is for it to be like James Bond, different actors, directors, ect. For MGS, he wants different directors, different storys, different concepts, different teams. He has wanted to stop doing MGS since mid production of MGS2, which i feel relates to the theme of MGS2, passing on the torch. And anyway, this new MGS is, as the new director had said, what he wants as part of a new trilogy. This is exactally what Kojima wants.

It is more like he wants it to be the best ot can be now, since it is a Konami asset. And with himself as VP, he has to take such desicions either he likes it personaly or not. We'll never know such things though, but I bet that what he wants is to do other projects. It was a perfect opportunity and a clean exit, with an excellent piece clearly closing a trilogy.

Hmm... undecided.
I was happy enough hearing Kojima was leaving MetalGear, but I was still hoping he'd give it to someone i'd heard of. Doing a quick search shows Imaizumi has worked on Sons of Liberty, Substance and Snake Eater, but he's also worked on such forgettable games as Frogger Beyond and Jurrasic Park 3.
So that's the "No place for Hideo" statement dealt with, how about "No place to hide"... a MetalGear game without stealth? Now, how will that work? To be honest, I don't think it will.
I think I'm more of a Kojima fan, than I am a speciffic MetalGear fan, so I might have to leave the series, allongside Hideo.

Remove the "I think" and you pretty got what I would have said. Good to know some other people think the same way I do.87th wrote:I think I'm more of a Kojima fan, than I am a speciffic MetalGear fan, so I might have to leave the series, allongside Hideo.
I certainly don't deny that there can be other great Metal Gear games, and I'll probably try them. But I am not looking forward to the, I would have loved the series to end (and in a way, it did), but given how significant and important it is, Konami would not let ot die. It is a no brainer.

For me, i'm a Metal Gear fan, and also a Kojima fan. I love Metal Gear Solid, but i love it becuase of the game, not the man behind the game. As i said, i am a Kojima fan, but this came from my love of Metal Gear Solid, so i hold the two seperatly. Im not saying that what has been reported sounds.....iffy, but i will play it because it is a Metal Gear game. Does that make sense?

The MetalGear games are my favourite Kojima games, but all his other games seem to be somewhere in my top twenty, and the NES games aren't. I think this should tell me a lot about how i'll approach the new game.
On second thought, though, it isn't as if Kojima games are the only games I like, and having him missing doesn't nessecarily mean it will be a bad game. I hope Kojima knew what he was doing when he handed the series to Imaizumi.

The series will do just fine without Kojima. The Japanese seem to have more respect and admiration for preserving one another's work. In some cases that can lead to redundancy, like all the goddamn Godzilla and Zatoichi films, but at least they aren't like us damn Americans always remaking or recreating what was already fine to begin with (see Roland Emmerich's Godzilla film).

New (better) article about MGS4-
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ne ... ?id=115646
Interesting quotes-
"He plans to tack a step back and assume the role of executive producer on MGS 4"
So he is still, there. No one will destroy MG, they'll just change it. A bit more Ghost Babel than Snake's Revenge, then.
"Stepping in as producer on Metal Gear Solid 4 is Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi. "We'll be taking it [MGS 4] to the next-gen and we want to feature a fresh, intriguing storyline and gameplay plus captivating graphics and more features while remaining true to the core of the MGS series - remaining Solid. We hope you'll enjoy,""
'remaining Solid'? Is that just a little pun, or does it have a double meaning? Will this, indeed be MetalGear Solid 4 rather than MetalGear [blank]?

Well, he is the executive producer of the Dance Dance Revolution games and Tokimeki games (that doens't make them bad, I do enjoy DDR games.. but they are not specificaly what you'd call Kojima games, are they?) and several Konami games.. so that makes not much of a difference.
But about the Solid reference, I gues sit is simply a pun. Nothing more. Konami wouldn't release that much information so early.

don't die of laugh because of the english director name.
The director is now Alan Smithee. If you're not familiar with Alan Smithee, we suggest taking a peek at his huge body of work as an imaginary person that people in the movie business use when they don't want to be associated with a movie they feel will be an utter disaster. This is an obvious joke from Kojima and surely there will be an announcement later on as to who the director will really be if there is to be one at all. - http://ps2.ign.com/articles/593/593190p1.html

IMDB wrote:'Alan Smithee' is a common pseudonym for directors whose film was clearly taken away from her/him and recut heavily against her/his wishes in ways that completely altered the film.
The Directors Guild contract generally does not permit a director to remove her/his name from films. The Directors Guild has been striving for decades to establish the director as the "author" of a film, and part of getting the credit for the successes is taking the blame for the failures. The only exceptions they make are cases in which a film was clearly taken away from a director and recut heavily against her/his wishes in ways that completely altered the film. Directors are required to appeal to the Guild in such cases. If the appeal is successful, their name is replaced by Alan Smithee. That is the only permissible pseudonym for a director. So if you notice a film directed by Alan Smithee, it is certain it is not what its director intended, and likely that it is not any good

A stroke of genius? Yeah, just wait till the film meets those requirements.
Anyway, I hate the fucking director's guild. Bunch of pricks. They didn't allow Lucas to have Spielberg to direct Return of the Jedi, because Lucas refused to show cast credits at the start of the film (he wanted to leave the old serial look to it). And since Spielberg was part of the guild, he was denied to do work on the film (despite the fact the two of them are friends and have worked together on numerous occasions). That's just one thing that's always ticked me off. And now they don't allow director's to hide their shame for their work? That's ridiculous. If you guys got an F on a test in school, you wouldn't want to have the teacher announce it to everyone just because you're ashamed of your work. Now I know directing a film is a team effort, and it may not be fair to the cast and crew if the director writes themself out of the credits, while everyone else has to live up to the blame. But honestly, that's the business. Anyway, they're all probably more concerned with getting paid than creating "art." Director's throw themselves up on screen, so they have to extra cautious of what they're starring in and who's directing them, because it's pointless using the pseudonym "Alan Smithee" for an actor. But I should quit being pissed, because that's Hollywood. Though any new age garbage can't compare to the classic films of yesteryear. In my opinion, it's pointless to even bother creating something profound in this day and age. It'll only be lost by the masses to big budget effects and romantic-comedies with Adam Sandler.
I'm a blind follower of the combination of Metal Gear Solid and Hideo Kojima, but I also look at it like a sports team. I loved Pedro Martinez, but I love the Boston Red Sox even more. I'm gonna wish Pedro well, but I'm rooting for the Sox. Of course, that specific analogy doesn't work best, because Kojima will still be involved. But until they betray my trust and release something crappy, I'm loyal to the Metal Gear name, not Hideo Kojima. I didn't buy Boktai or Zone of the Enders, partly because I don't have any money, but mostly because I just wasn't interested.
That being said, I love Hideo Kojima's work in the Metal Gear series, and it's most likely Kojima and Kojima alone who was responsible for making Metal Gear what it is. But I'm going to buy MGS4 as soon as it comes out (and I have enough money to buy it), because, as Jerry Seinfeld said, I'm rooting for the laundry. Now, if MGS4 is just a 3-D platformer with a sassy, wise-cracking monkey as Snake's new sidekick, I'll probably need convincing to buy MGS5, because MGS would no longer represent what I liked it for.
