Kojima's posted on his Twitter that originally when he was developing the game he had the idea that they could put a special paint on the disc that dissipated as the cd heated up, releasing the smell of blood for the crime scenes and when it dissapeared it may have revealed clues on the disc itself to help with the game. The idea got shot down though. Shame really. Goes to show he's always thinking outside the box.

That doe’s sound cool but I can think of allot things that could go wrong with that...yeah no wonder it got rejected

Yeah I don't think a paint on the disc that melted in your drive would've been too clever. You probably would've gotten the scent of blood from the disc followed by a burning smell from your console.
