Remaining untranslated storyline/sidestory info?
With the translation of the Audio Dramas, the original Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2 manual translations, as well as the still-canonical character info and "prequel" in the Metal Gear Solid strategy Guide (U.S. version) are there any storyline snippets, sidestories, etc. left only to Japanese audiences?
I heard rumors of another "prequel" type theing for one of the games being contained in one of the Japanese artbooks, but I could be very much mistaken.
I know that there are "novelisations" or MGS 1and 2, but I don't think they contain any inorfmation or events that aren't already known.

The MGS3 Countdown and MGS Naked books contain info on the games as discussed by Kojima. Same goes for the Japanese strategy guides. MGS Integral's guide is particularly interesting. For instance, they mention that the decision to change the proverbs Mei Ling gives in MGS1 was a joint decison between Kojima and Jeremy Blaustein, the translator. Off the top of my head, in the Naked book, when talking about cloning, Kojima says Liquid was mistaken to think one Snake was inferior to the other because the type of technology used meant that they would be completely identical (i.e. no superior-inferior scenario). Then Countdown mentions that FOX stands for Force Operations X.
The Integral guide also lists the codec frequencies for the hidden music remixes in Integral, which I believe remained unknown to most Western gamers for a long time (well, since Integral never came out outside Japan, it's not as important).
The MGS2 game plan (included in the Document) is also a mine of info. Some has become well known (like how Kojima wanted to call MGS2 MGSIII at one point); most, if not all the info can be found on that Japanese guy's English website on MGS (the one at Geocities, I can't remember the URL- I know Johnny Undaunted knows it). I started translating the game plan a while ago but got busy with something else afterwards and haven't gone back to it. It'd also help if someone could extract it or make screen caps of it, going back and forth between the TV and the computer is time-consuming.

Also these there books I have on my desk... The scenario books. And most Japanese books included in premium packages, which are only text.

I have a few questions:
1. Does the Japanese game plan in Document say that Snake was originally supposed to have his hair dyed blond (when disguised as Pliskin) or is was blond supposed to be his natural color?
2. Is there an explanation as to why Big Boss never says "I'm your father" or something similar in Metal Gear 2?
3. Do any of the books actually say who got the 'dominant' and 'recessive' genes?

You're probably referring to Muni Shinobu's Metal Gear Solid website. Plenty of good info there.Osiris wrote:most, if not all the info can be found on that Japanese guy's English website on MGS (the one at Geocities, I can't remember the URL- I know Johnny Undaunted knows it).

There's also the MGS Scenario books, which are basically the scripts for each of the MGS games in paperback format. They probably contain backstory details for each game.
Yes, that's the one.Johnny Undaunted wrote:You're probably referring to Muni Shinobu's Metal Gear Solid website. Plenty of good info there.

1. It's been a while since I've read the plan, but something about what you wrote sounds familiar. I'll check through it and get back to you.Bioroid wrote:I have a few questions:

2. Not that I know of, no. Maybe Kojima hadn't been thinking about it back then, I don't know.
3. Like I posted above, Kojima said in the Naked book that neither Liquid or Solid is dominant over the other, they're both equal. Here's a translation (first they talk about how having dominant genes doesn't necesarily mean better abilities):
"There's no dominance or recessiveness between twins born from cloning. They're completely identical. Liquid was mistaken. Genes don't determine someone's future - people can change the future according to their will and actions." (p. 65)

How about this: Does Snake Eater's original game content offer any canonical explanation for Volgin? Usually, Kojima comes up with incredibly detailed and well thought out origins and explanations for the bizzare, often scientifically implausible abilities of his rouge gallery casts of characters, grounding them in some amount of reality. I found that greatly lacking in MGS3, though with the Cobra unit you at least have some amount of explanation for each character-- not much, but some. I can't find any radio conversation, etc. to explain how exactly Volgin became Thunderbolt, when even a simple "experimentation by the Philosophers" scenario would have sufficed.
Anybody know exactly who, when and where one should radio in order to learn more about the backgrounds of the Cobra unit and Volgin?

I'd be willing to get screencaps of that - I have it all set up already because I've been taking a lot of captures anyway.Osiris wrote:

Damn. You'd think they could've reincorporated them for Subsistence.Snake700 wrote:A big part of the radio seqences where cut from the final version, because people wherént happy with the many CODEC seqences in MGS2Skycladiana wrote:How about this: Does Snake Eater's original game content offer any canonical explanation for Volgin? Is there any way to read what was cut? Are there scripts anywhere online, perchance?
