Gyakuten Saiban 2 to be ported to North America

Post by Reborn from the Ashes »

As Phoenix Wright: Justice for All.

Slightly disappointing, as I read it was due to come out in October, but it's very nice to see that Capcom took note of the popularity of the original Phoenix Wright.

I still haven't played the first Pheonix Wright. I should probably buy it soon.

Some new information about Gyakuten Saiban 4.

Gyakuten Saiban takes place seven years after Gyakuten Saiban 4

The new Defense Attorny will be called Odoroki Hôsuke, and was briefly seen at the end of an E3 for trailer for Justice For All. (Hinting at a possible Western release?)

The new sidekick is a 14-15 year old female magician called Minuki.

The Judge is still in Gyakuten Saiban 4, as is Payne (with a new hairstyle. :o)

Gyakuten Saiban 4 has been pushed back to a Spring 2007 date in Japan. Phoenix is the first defendant, and is now a "professional" Poker player/pianist after giving up law seven years ago.

The main prosecutor is the leader of a popular Band, and is also the younger brother of Odoroki's mentor.

There's no sign of Psycho-locks (these appear in Gyakuten Saiban 2 and 3), instead Odoroki has a bracelet which he can use to "zoom in" on witnesses, to look for subtle body language that suggests that witness is lying. Unlike Psycho-locks, it appears that Odoroki's bracelet (called the "Minuku" system) can only be used during trials.

Gyakuten Saiban 2 DS was released in Japan in October with a full English translation, but due to a few spelling errors will be going through another check before the January release in North America. Capcom are offering a stylus for people who preorder. Also, a port and translation of Gyakuten Saiban 3 is currently under discussion, although the U.S. sales of Phoenix Wright 2: Justice for All will be a major factor in the decision.

It is looking likely that Gyakuten Saiban 4 will be translated though.

It's a lawyer game. You have to get your innocent clients a "Not Guilty" verdict.

There's some more information about here: http://www.court-records.net/faq.htm

The English versions are DS only, but there is a fan translation of the third game on the Gameboy Advance, if you're interested in seeing what the games are like.

Yeah, they do look very good. I bet they are really good fun. Whats with all the sequels though? Is it not just an updated version each time?

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you mean to be honest. :(

At the moment there are three Gyakuten Saiban games. Originally, they were never intended to be translated, because it was thought that they would be unpopular (Gyakuten Saiban 3 was released at the beginning of 2004.) In 2005, they made a remake of the original Gyakuten Saiban, which included a new case which took advantage of the extra features the DS had.

Phoenix Wright did so well in the West, Capcom decided to port Gyakuten Saiban 2 to the DS with a full translation, but this time without any extra content. (I've heard that it isn't selling too well in Japan because there aren't any extra cases.)

Gyakuten Saiban 3 is still only on the GBA and in Japanese. Each game has a new story and main prosecutor, although the gameplay is pretty much the same. It's was the only original Gyakuten Saiban game to have five cases so it's unlikely that a DS version will have an extra case.

So it has a story behind it all, I see. I thought it was merely a fun game, like Tetris, meaning no need for sequels, but now I know it has a story.

The story is one of the strongest aspects of the series. :)

If anyone is interested in the fan translation, please PM me.
