Best version of the game?
I am interested in the game and was wondering which version would you say is worth the money? Also, is there any English language translations on the net yet (in text, for me to print off I mean)? Thanks a lot for the help.

Use the search function, or simply scroll through the Policenauts board themes so you can read detailed opinions on the subject.
Regarding thr translation: no tehre is no text on the net, just a guide, we are the only ones working on it.

If one can understand Japanese, the Saturn version would be the best overall version. My advice would be to hold off playing it for now, in the hope that an English version will appear somewhere sometime somehow. That version would automatically become the best version for English speakers, wouldn't you say?

No offence man, but Kojima has been asked about it on numerous occasions and has turned it down each and everytime (to translate it into English that is)! Okay, I will not play it then, especially since I won't understand any of it. And what exactly are you doing with the translation; is it a text file? Or are you going to use screenshots to show each scene? Or what? I am confused. Sorry for being such a pain in the ass, but I wanna know.
Are you familiar with the fan translation scene? A good place to start would be http://www.romhacking.net/.

Not at all man, thanks for the link. I am really a n00b when it comes down to it all. All I am is an MGS fan wanting to see what other games Kojima has made; I have played the ZOE series, Snatcher, Boktai series and now i have turned my attention to Policenauts, so I haven't a clue about anything at all mate. Thanks for the help anyway everyone, at least I know what's what now.

I've just bought Policenauts, do you think the price is okay for this version?

Edit: Arrrrg! I've just seen that I could've gotten this version for just a few more euros/dollar.

Damn...well, it's too late now.
But the cover on the cd case looks better.

Ugh, this topic bump brings back my embarassing n00b posts.
Oh dear...
And yeah, I had my eye on that item, was wondering who it went to, oh well, I know now, eh?
Also, I got the Pilot Disc for the 3DO for a total of £6.50! I immediately saw the same Pilot Disc version of the game go afterwards (different seller) for £30! So I got quite the bargain then.

On the subject I did have a question... the game features FMVs like MGS, right? How are text overlays handled? is it the same way as the normal game, I'm guessing they're not pre-rendered into the FMVs.Osiris wrote:No problem. From what I can tell, FMV subtitles are not encoded in the actual movie files but displayed by the game's engine in the same fashion as during regular gameplay.DarkTetsuya wrote:On the subject I did have a question... the game features FMVs like MGS, right? Ah ok. I'm guessing they used a similar method in ZOE and MGS? (Which would make translating the text during movie sequences easier.)epitaph wrote:From what I can tell, FMV subtitles are not encoded in the actual movie files but displayed by the game's engine in the same fashion as during regular gameplay.DarkTetsuya wrote:On the subject I did have a question... the game features FMVs like MGS, right?
