Timeline Relations between MG, Snatcher and Policenauts?

Post by Alec »

Longtime lurker...registered to ask this one question.

Do the Metal Gear games, Snatcher and Policenauts take place in the same universe? Are they on one timeline?

I was replaying through Snatcher the other day and I was just thinking of how cool it would be if MGS4 had to do with WW3 and the Catastrophe.

No they're not related. And since the catastrophe took place 1991 and Harry talked about how Metal Gear MkII was designed after the Metal Gear from the Metal Gear manace in the late 20th century, (Meaning Metal Gear TX - 55 in Outer Heaven, which occured 1995.) it's very unlikely.

No they couldn't be at all. For a start, MGS4 is set in the same time (or thereabouts) as Snatcher was, so that immediately destroys any speculation about it all.

I've read in a couple places that all the references btw Kojima games -- it's more just a bunch of homages than direct links. Which makes sense, when you look at the references.

Impossible examples:
"Tokugawa Heavy Industry" on the "Ninja" suit in MGS2, MGS4.
"Big Boss is a Snatcher" says Kessler in MG2.
I think a couple Snatcher chars are in Policenauts (I didn't find em)
Etc.

There's also a Meryl Silverburgh in both MGS1 and Policenauts, though it is commonly agreed that they are different characters with the same name and similar looks and backgrounds, rather than one and the same.
