Ocelot's story

Post by FOX-HOUND »

This may mave been discussed before in another thread, so if it has please just lock/delet this and leave a link.

Anyway, I found this radio script on GameFAQs:
Ocelot's Past (call Eva after fighting Ocelot)

Snake: Eva, I wanted to ask you about Ocelot...

Eva: Yeah, I know. He's pretty infatuated with you, isn't he?

Snake: That's not what I meant. Aren't the Ocelots an elite unit?

Eva: Yeah.

Snake: So how'd he get to be their commander? He can't be any older than 18 or
19. I can't believe he's already a major...

Eva: I heard from the Colonel that he's been given... special treatment.

Snake: Special treatment?

Eva: Yeah. He's the son of some legendary hero or something.

Snake: No wonder he seems to have the right stuff... So who is this legendary
hero anyway?

Eva: Beats me.

Snake: ...

Eva: The Colonel never told me. All I heard was that his mother was supposedly
shot in the gut during battle and that he was born right there with bullets
whizzing past them.

Snake: A pregnant woman in the middle of a battle?

Eva: That's what I heard. They say that when they stitched her up, the scar
was shaped like a snake.

Snake: Well, that's battlefield medicine for you. What about his father, this
legendary hero?

Eva: He didn't tell me. I don't think Ocelot's ever met his parents.

Snake: Are they dead?

Eva: Maybe. I don't know. There were a lot of MIA's back then, during the last
days of the war. Ocelot probably would have ended up the same way. But he was
taken in and raised by GRU and Volgin.

Snake: Because he was special?

Eva: That's my guess.
So Ocelot is The Boss's son then? I'd like to find out more about him because he's an intriguing character. Can someone shed some light on his story for me?
Thank God for the rain to wash the trash off the sidewalk...

Was The Boss aware that Ocelot was her son? It didn't seem to me that she was.

Doubt it. I think he would've been taken in very young, to not recognise his mother.

You're forgetting the time when the Boss imitates his hand gesture. She does know he's her son.

But either way, this has been discussed elsewhere on the forum somewhere...

EVA did the same hand gesture to Ocelot. Is she somehow related to him in some way? I doubt The Boss knows about it, and was merely imitating him for the sake of imitating him.

I didn't think the familial relationships in these games could get any more needless since Kojima introduced Emma Emmerich, but I guess I was wrong.

When does EVA do Ocelot's hand gesture? I can't remember...

Besides, the look on the Boss' face when she does it, and that she does it behind his back as he's leaving is clear movie-talk for "I'm longing after my missing son", not "I'm taking the piss out of you".

In the end though the game is just a series of events and dialogues for you to make your own guesses and conclusions from, Kojima merely presents you with the pieces; you choose what to build from them.

I don't think she know he's her son. The way i see it, she does the hand gesture to mock him, just like Eva. Eva does the hand gesture when Snake is watching them from the mountain top.. a hidden R1 there.

Personally, i think the way Kojima wanted it, was for The Boss and Ocelot to have a mother/son relationship unknowingly. You see it many times during the game, like when The Boss takes his SAA apart and when she hits him in the torture room.

That is simply going toward the fact that she knows he is her son. What would happen os Ocelot shot Sokolov....lets see, Volgin would beat the shit out of him, he would get kicked about the place like he were a football, same for the torture scene. Anyways, if im not wrong, she seems to know alot of other top secret information that she wouldn't need to be told, so if this is right, then would she not have found out about Ocelot. The only thing i can really see against her not knowing is the fact that she dosent openly say it, but there is no real time when she needs to, she isnt going to blurt out in her final speech "Ohh, and did i tell you Jack, Ocelots my son, just though you would like to know". My mother disent exactally parade around saying "He's my son dont you know!". She will if she needs to. Plus, when you think about The Boss is his mother and you play through again, in my opinion it all seems more obvious that it is true. Argue away, but in my opinion your clearly wrong.

Well, i guess there's no way we'll know for sure, unless Kojima himself mentions it in an interview or commentary.

I think it would be more obvious if she knew. The way she is in the game, it's more like she takes on a slight mother figure, and maybe feels some connection, but doesn't know he's her son. I like it better this way, and i think it's what Kojima intended.

First of all, I'm not a grammar nazi, but the past tense of "tell" is "told", not "tolled".

And second, what the heck do you mean it was cut from the final version? You just don't know how to trigger it because me and everyone I know that played the game has had the conversation at some point or another.

Wow, grammar nazi is becoming a part of the normal lexicon around here. I'm not a grammar nazi but I am a Grammar Policenaut. I'll let this spelling error go with a warning and not write a citation.
