Wow, what a brilliant advertisement move. </sarcasm>

I think my problem with it isn't so much the name itself, but the fact that they changed it after having the name "Revolution" tagged on to it for so long and now, not too long before it's launch, suddenly just jumping ship after putting so much money and time into the original name. I just don't see the logic in it.Painaxl wrote:I just don't think that it's as huge a deal as the internet exploded with it.
Me on a different forum wrote:I'm starting to think that the whole reason Nintendo renamed their system the Wii is to get attention. The name change was reported on a ridiculous amount of websites (everything from BBC America to The Motley Fool, Google News even had it as one of the top Science and Technology stories), and that alone made people that don't follow gaming at all notice the system. I'm sure a lot of those people who read those articles may even be planning to purchase a Wii now since they've seen how different it's going to be from traditional game consoles and how much easier the controller will be to use compared to the 360 or PS3 controllers.
When thought of in that light, the name change is a brilliant move.
If I remember right, N64 was called "Ultra 64" for ages before the final name, the Killer Instinct arcade machine had ultra 64 logos and stuff on it even and the Gamecube was known as 'Dolphin' at one point. Crazy guys.
