Snatcher saving help with SegaCd (emulation)

Post by Thermoptic »

Im new to the Snatcher game and i cant wait to play it. i Have a iso+mp3 that works fine with Gens and Kega but i cant save.. and i dont want to play the game before i can save.

If I understand this right there is currenty no emulator that supports "save states", you have to use segacds brm (Backup Ram Memory) function to save the games. And i have been trying for hours to get this BRM save to work in Kega but still no luck.

One problem could be that i really dont know WHEN the game Snatcher saves the current state. When i have run these tests to get Snatcher to save i have only played about 5 minutes into the game, to the "Chiefs office" then i quit the game. My guess is that when i start Snatcher again the game should resume to that exact point in the Chiefs office.. or am i wrong? I maybe need to play some more for the game to save? Is there a "save game" screen later in the game? That maybe explains why i think that the save ram feature doesnt work?

I noticed that when i load a RAM chart in Kega (in the segacd boot window) and then load Snatcher there is a new window that appears right after the KOMANI logotype, the screen reads

"CD Backup RAM chart, Wich will you use?
1 - Internal Backup Ram
2 - Cd Backup Ram Chart"

I have tested both of these options and dont get any results. I have tested both per-game and per-bios in the settings, dont know the difference between these two and i dont know wich one you should use.
Kega creats a snatcher.brm (and the size of this seemes to always be 8kb)

If somebody know how to get the BRM ram save to work for Kega or Gens and snatch please post a guide. Thanks!

Yes, you need to save explicitly later in the game.

Thank you Snatcher! That helped alot, i was worried that the save feature didnt work. Now i can continiue playing the game.

Exacty how far into the game is the first save point?

And what emulator is the best for Snatcher? Gens? Kega?

Thanks

You can use the in-game save as soon as you leave Junker HQ for the first time. About 10-20 mins I'd say.

By Kega, do you mean Fusion? I've played Snatcher on both and haven't noticed any differences. Fusion has overtaken GENS in terms of general compatibality though.

I was always more comfortable with Gens, but now I think it's more of a preference thing, rather than compatibility.
